The Day that Was: November 17 Round-Up

NFL:

It appears as if Tyler Thigpen will be starting for the Dolphins on Sunday. It won't help that Jake Long might now play as well.

DeAngelo Williams is out for the season after being placed on IR. With the Panthers sitting at 1-8, it doesn't appear to be a smart risk to play him.

Antonio Gates missed practice today, and it looks like he will be a game-time decision for Sunday. It was assumed that he would be ready to go after getting two weeks of in a row including last week's bye.


MLB:

Ron Gardenhire is the AL Manager of the Year. The Twins won the AL Central before losing to the Yankees in the ALDS.

Bud Black is the NL Manager of the Year. He led an overachieving Padres team to within contention until September.

The Marlins have signed C John Buck for 3 years/$18 million.

The Tigers have signed relief pitcher Joaquin Benoit for 3 years/$16.5 million.

In a weird report, White Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf says Ozzie Guillen would have been dealt to the Marlins had the Marlins given them a particular player, most likely Mike Stanton. hmm....


NBA:

Evan Longoria is divorcing Tony Parker because he allegedly sent text messages to former Spurs player Brent Barry's wife.

Lakers C Andrew Bynum hopes to return by Christmas.

Lebron James is continuing his organization of Thanksgiving meals to Akron residents.


NCAA FB:

Fox Sports will televise the first six Big Ten title games. Nebraska will join the Big Ten next year, making it the "Big Twelve."

Jake Locker has been cleared to play by coach Steve Sarkisian.


NCAA BB:

Duke remains number one in the first week of the AP poll. They crushed Princeton by 37 to start the season.

Gonzaga F Elias Harris has possibly teared his Achilles Tendon. He was projected to get drafted in the NBA this year.
