Monday November 8th: The P&W Lowdown

Wade Phillips is out as Cowboys head coach. Although the team is off to an unimpressive 1-7 start, owner Jerry Jones had repeatedly said coaching changes would not me made during the season. Offensive Coordinator Jason Garrett will take over as interim head coach. It appears that getting embarrassed yet again, this time on national television, Jones has decided enough is enough. The Cowboys have the highest-payroll in the NFL this year but it appears as if they are on their way to a top 10 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft.

The Red Sox have let Scott Boras know their interest in free agent outfielder Jason Werth. It is to be assumed the Sox are also after Carl Crawford, where the price would be a bit steeper. The Red Sox outfield for 2011 currently consists of Mike Cameron and J.D. Drew with Jacoby Ellsbury being arbitration eligible. Cameron and Drew are both in the last years of their contracts.

The Detroit Tigers have found their replace for shortstop Adam Everett. Jhonny Peralta will join the club on a two-year $11.25 million dollar contract. Detroit acquired Peralta from Cleveland in July, where he then played the majority of his games at shortstop. The Tigers have solidified the left side of their infield, as they signed third basemen Brandon Inge too a similar deal less than three weeks ago.

Allen Iverson’s overseas journey has begun. He arrived in Istanbul, Turkey today, where he was greeted by his new team Besiktas. It is believed Iverson is using the Turkish team as a chance to display his skills in hopes of being signed by an NBA team for next season. He is expected to make his debut on November 13th. Besiktas has not won the turkish league since 1975, but they certainly hope Iverson, their biggest free-agent signing ever, can change that.
