Week 11: What to Watch For

SEC:
  • Watch out for the South Carlolina/Florida game. South Carolina has a shot, but the quarterback situation is extremely murky. The wide receivers are all across the field, but Garcia needs the type of game he had against Alabama to recover from most of his mishaps this season. The Florida offense came together against Vanderbilt and is showing some signs of life but still have yet to play a above average defense. Florida will continue to use its speed in the offensive scheme, but their defense will set the tone for this game. A Gamecock team with less than 14 points heading into halftime is a dead team. Count on that.
Big Ten:

  • This Penn State/Ohio State game has the chance to be very interesting. Matt McGloin has looked awesome against questionable defenses. Not to take anything away frm McGloin's achievements, but Ohio State is a whole different defensive animal than Michigan (See Michigan/Illinois for reference). If Penn State is able to hold on to possession and continue to be one of the most disciplined teams in the country I believe they have a chance in this game. If Ohio State gets 10 or more points from turnovers the game will be over in a jiffy. Let's also see if Penn State can reach Pryor a few times and force him into some bad decisions.
Big 12

  • Even though Texas is struggling mightily this season, Oklahoma State has been overachieving at every turn. The Cowboys control their own destiny in the Big 12 South, but face a difficult three games to end the season. Texas cannot run the ball and their vaunted defense has seen the effects of being on the field for too long. Oklahoma State is a quick strike offense with Dana Holgerson and his scheme, but the Texas offense is disturbing. I don't think OK State needs to worry too much about time of possession because if their offense scores the way it has all season this game will be theres. I can feel Texas pulling this one out for some reason or another but the logical choice is Oklahoma State at this point.
ACC:

  • I know Virginia Tech and North Carolina are playing this weekend, but Florida State/Clemson should be a great clash. Both these teams still have a chance in a weak Atlantic division, but Clemson's offense has not been able to figure anything out lately. Christian Ponder is still nursing an elbow injury, but he looks good to go for the game. Da'Quan Bowers is absolutley amazing, but the Florida State offensive line is nothing to sneeze at. If Bowers and Co. can get pressure on Ponder, I believe Clemson can steal this one out of Tallahassee. Kyle Parker needs to step things up and coaching mishaps will not be tolerated by Clemson fans. FSU fans witnessed yet another missed field goal agaisnt North Carolina. Their thirst for revenge this week could be the downfall of Clemson.
Pac-10

  • The Oregon/Cal game will not be close (adv. Oregon) but the USC/Arizona game should be very interesting. Two teams that are still looking for a very strong season will continue to move along. USC has really only been truly beaten once this year (Oregon) while their losses to Stanford and Washington have been on late field goals. If Nick Foles returns to pre-injury shape with his passes, the USC secondary better watch out, but this game will come down to the winner of the ground game. Grigsby and his crew need to be physical with a depth-challenged USC defense.

Big East:

  • The West Virginia/Cincinnati game could have some type of signifigance in the conference, but the Big East is really Pitts to lose (losing to Connecticut did not help). A team like Syracuse, Louisville, and West Virginia still see a BCS bowl berth a possibility. West Virginia cannot pull their usual stunts and make this a close game. Geno Smith has to grow up again this year after falling into a small slump. If he is rolling, so is the offense. The defense doesn't have too much to worry about.
Be ready for an awesome Week 11
